Speaking Their Language: Tell Your Story, Position Your Offering and Seal the Deal

Calendar2 03/08/2012 Clock2 01:00 PM

Communicating the excitement and possibilities of an investment opportunity to a global audience is challenging.  But it’s as important to “tell the story” and “share the dream” as it is to convey the numbers and provide the spreadsheets.

How do you connect with foreign investors who may be looking at dozens of investments?  How do you stand out from the rest?  How do you make sure your project or property is put into the most positive light?

First, you need to have a great story to tell.  Just like a TV news report, you need “an angle” and a way to succinctly share your unique selling points.  Next, you need to communicate that story using compelling words and images that have universal appeal.  Quality of life, aesthetic beauty, warmth and humor—these are traits and attributes that transcend cultural differences and they need to be reflected in the communications you deliver.  Finally, you need to appeal to the investor with a “what’s in it for them” message.  If you achieve these key communication goals, you will captivate and capture your overseas investors.

So how do you get the word out and package the message in a fresh and accessible way?  It’s not like it used to be where you could throw together a brochure and some photographs and call it an investment package.  Digital and social media have changed all that.  Today, investors from Dubai to Shanghai want to see and experience the project or property with a great video.  They want to know more about your track record and past successes.  They want to be kept current and updated on the progress of the project through their local social media sites.  They may want to see and hear how customers and consumers are responding as well. And they want to access it not only in English but in their native language as well.

Today, social media is more than just Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.  We’ll share real actionable strategies your organization can use in e-marketing, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), target advertising, social and group targeting and web PR.

In short, when it comes to reaching out to potential investors, you have to learn to speak their language, literally and figuratively.  In this section of Media and Marketing Day you’ll discover how to achieve all of your project marketing and communication goals through video, print and the web.

You’ll also learn how to appeal to key investment markets—including China where we’ll get insights from a team of Shanghai-based Americans who have firsthand knowledge of how Chinese investors typically like to receive and review investment opportunities.

Are you ready for your close up? Do you know your “elevator pitch” backwards and forwards?  What would you say if you were interviewed on camera for broadcast or the web?  You may have the chance to take the stage during this session, to practice answering questions in a newsroom setting.  Having the right answer can make all the difference when you’re seen and heard by your prospective investor.

Want to see how this all comes together?  During our session you’ll see a real case study—how Creative Word & Image (cwi.me) took a project through the marketing and media process, using video to establish credibility and create excitement, an easy to navigate website/landing page that encourages sharing and leverages search, and social media to pull it all together.  Looking forward to a fun and interactive session!
